On the Back Blessings
Here's an easy way for teenagers to give and receive encouragement from adults
and other teenagers.
Attach a piece of paper to teenagers' backs with a safety pin.. Then hand out
sharpies or markers. Then, while you play some music, have everyone wander
around and write something encouraging on everyone else's paper. Make sure
everyone remains anonymous. Reading these afterward makes everyone feel better.
Rip Off!
For this game you will need different colors of duct tape- at
least three. Divide your group into as many teams as you have
colored tape, and assign a color to each team. Have each team
member rip off a foot long piece of their color of tape and stick it
to their back. The goal of the fame is to rip off the tape of other
teams' members, while keeping you own. When your tape is ripped off you're out of
the game. Last team wins.
In-Door and On the Floor Volleyball
This game uses the same rules as regular volleyball, except it's played indoors with a
beach ball-and instead of standing, everyone is seated on a chair.
This helps level the playing field, and keeps super-athletic people from trying to get
every ball. Players can't move the chairs or stand up. If you don't have a gym or a
volleyball net, you can use tables, couches, or chairs as a makeshift net.
Heads & Tails
1. Have 2 coins ready to flip.
2. Kids have to guess how the coins will land BEFORE they land.
*2 hands on head (both coins heads)
*2 hands on your butt (both coins land on tails)
*1 hand on head/1 hand on butt (one on heads on on tails)
3. Have everyone stand up to do this. When they guess wrong-sit down. So their
ends up being a "stand off" at the end.
Create an Animal
Procedure: The leader gives the group the name of a unique animal. The first player
assumes a position as the head or body of the animal. Other players then take other
positions- arms, legs, humps, horns, etc. The head may even create the animal noise.
Find the Thing
Procedure: Everyone stands in a circle, shoulder to shoulder. One person stands in
the middle with his or her eyes open. The facilitator walks around the outside of the
circle and drops a small object (like a rock) into one person‘s hands. The players in
the circle must pass the object around behind their backs, trying to conceal from the
middle person who has the object. The middle person has three tries to pick out who
has the object. When the person in the middle picks the person with the object, that
person becomes the person in the middle. If the person in the middle does not get it
by the third attempt, the facilitator may either begin the round again, or select another
person to be in the middle.
4 Corners
Divide the room into 4 corners, one person is it in the middle and blindfolded, music
played for 10 seconds while everyone divides up, the it person then calls out a
number and everyone in that corner is out.
Skin the Snake
Procedure: Have the players line up facing forward. Each person places one hand
back through his or her legs. This hand is grabbed by the next person in line. The
participants can then race to see how quickly they can skin their snake. The last
player in line lies down while the next to last player backs over her. This player then
lies down while the next player backs over him and so on until the entire line of
players is down. Then the players must reverse the process to put the skin back on
the snake before the game is over.
