I am Alethea De Groot but many people know me as Lee. I have lived in Hull all my life,
excluding the years I was in college. I grew up in the 1st CRC in Hull and have been a member
of Hope CRC since 1989. I have been active in VBS, Gems, Cadets, Sunday School, Cornerstone
Prison Fellowship Weekend, and I have enjoyed speaking at spiritual retreats, women's
luncheons, couples' club dinners, and at the Seminary's Annual Scholarship Banquet. My desire
to work with today's youth and their leaders comes from many years of volunteering and the life
experiences God has given me.
I am married to Doug and he is in his 3rd year of seminary in Sioux Falls and will be finishing up
his MDIV through Calvin next year. God blessed us with 5 children; 4 sons and 1 daughter. Chase
is 24 and a business analyst and is married to Beth who is a labor and delivery nurse. They live in
Sioux Falls and are expecting their 1st baby in April. Yes, I am going to be a Grandma! Dodge is
20 and just transferred from ISU and St Andrews, Scotland U.K. to Dordt College where he is
studying physics and mathematics. I love having him closer to home. Dash is 18 and is a SR at
Western Christian. He is known for his out going personality, his ability to debate on any subject,
and he makes his presents known with his 6' 8 1/2" frame. Cruise is 13 and is in the 7th grade. He
does not miss a beat when it comes to his three older brothers and he says he just can't wait to
drive this May. Aysha is 11 and is in the 5th grade at Hull Christian. She has a love for people of
all ages; having friends who are 2 years old all the way to 94 years old. She is my diamond in the
rough.
Living just three blocks from both schools has taught me to have an open mind, an open heart,
and plenty of extra food. Over the years many kids have come and gone through our revolving
doors; some have stayed a few hours or a few days while others have stayed for months and
years. The journey I call life has taught me that no matter what decisions we make, even bad
ones, God's love is unconditional and His grace is sufficient. My life verse is II Corinthians
1:3-5...My prayer, my hope, and my passion is that I will be able to walk alongside our Youth and
their Leaders helping them to build relationships with each other and their Lord through the
journey called life.
